Community Based Monitoring

Combining Traditional Knowledge and Western Science to answer concerns about changing environmental conditions in the Peace-Athabasca Delta. We sample year-round and gather data on the health of wildfoods, the quality and quantity of water, ice thickness, air quality, fish health and much more.

The Whitefish camp started in 2018 and is now a fully integrated Fort Chipewyan Métis Nation, Mikisew Cree First Nation and Athabasca Cree First Nation run program looking at the health of Lake Whitefish through annual examinations of Indigenous and scientific indicators of health.
